Assemblyman Ra Welcomes Over 100 Veterans and Guests for Annual Patriotic Picnic
Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) welcomed veterans from the 19th Assembly District and their guests to his annual patriotic picnic on Thursday, Aug. 7, at VFW Post 2718, where about 115 attendees enjoyed complimentary food and community camaraderie. Joining Assemblyman Ra in recognizing the veterans were Post Commander John Conway, Nassau County Comptroller Elaine Phillips, Town of Hempstead Town Clerk Kate Murray, Town of Hempstead Supervisor John Ferretti, Town of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes Jeanine Driscoll, Town of North Hempstead Town Clerk Ragini Srivastava, members of Boy Scout Troop 93 and the Long Island Young Marines.
The program opened with the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. Guests enjoyed a hearty barbecue prepared by the Bar-B-Que Boyz, with Boy Scout Troop 93 and Long Island Young Marines assisting in setup, service and cleanup.
“Spending this afternoon with our veterans is one of the most rewarding traditions of the year,” said Assemblyman Ra. “Hearing their stories, thanking them face-to-face and reminding them that their service and sacrifices remain deeply valued in our community. It’s a small gesture compared to all they’ve given, but one I hope reassures them they will always have our respect and appreciation.”
“I’m grateful to VFW Post 2718 for opening their doors year after year, to the scouts of Troop 93 and Long Island Young Marines for their energy and hard work and to the Bar-B-Que Boyz for keeping everyone well-fed. Our community is strongest when we stand together, and today was a perfect example of that.”
