Ra Votes For Ethics Reform, More Anti-Corruption Legislation Needed
Statement by Assemblyman Ed Ra (21st Assembly District)
“I was elected to fight for our community and change the status quo in Albany. The passage of this ethics bill is a first step to completely rid Albany of its notorious corruption. Two recent governors, a state comptroller, and a slew of state senators and assembly members had ethics charges brought against them and betrayed taxpayers in our community. I was determined to push for the strongest ethics laws in the country and restore the community’s trust in our state government.
“While today’s bill shows that Albany is taking a stand against those who betray the public’s trust, it’s a drop in the bucket with what really needs to be done. More anti-corruption legislation is needed to fully restore trust in our state government. This ethics reform battle is far from over, and I’m eager to continue to rid Albany of corruption.
“While passing the ethics bill is important, it’s even more important that lawmakers pass meaningful tax relief for homeowners and a plan that will help put all Long Islanders back to work. Lawmakers have limited time left to complete this, but leaving Albany with anything less will only hurt our community.”
