Students Receive Awards As Part Of 2012 Flag Day Art & Essay Contest
Assemblyman presents flags and citations to local students during ceremony at Rath Park
Assemblyman Edward P. Ra (21st Assembly District) recently joined Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, local veterans, parents and students to celebrate the winners of his 2012 Flag Day Art & Essay Contest. During the event, awards were given to winners from Polk Street, John Street, and Washington Street schools.
This year, Assemblyman Ra sponsored the contest for students from the three Franklin Square elementary schools. Students submitted essays or artwork discussing what the American Flag meant to them. Members of VFW Post 2718 then selected one winner from each grade level. Winners were presented with an American flag, New York State flag, an official New York State citation, along with a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Frosty’s Ice Cream Club & Coffee Bar.
The program finished off with the singing of God Bless America by Emily McManus, Lauren Pitz and Gabriella Cavaleri of Washington Street School.
