Ra, Long Island Education Committee Minority Members Call For School Aid Runs To Be Released
Yesterday, Assemblymen Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square), Al Graf (R,C,I-Holbrook), Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) and Dean Murray (R,C,I-East Patchogue) sent a letter to New York State Budget Director Robert Megna requesting that “school aid runs” be disclosed. During the 2015 budget proposal, Megna said this information would not be made available until the governor’s proposed education reforms are enacted.
“The decision to hold this essential information hostage will inappropriately punish local superintendents and school boards,” said Ra. “As a result, they will not be able to plan budgets or make difficult decisions regarding programs and staff for the upcoming year. This agenda-driven tactic will do more harm than good to our school districts, and will ultimately leave our children shortchanged.”
The four Long Island representatives are Minority members of the Assembly Committee on Education.
