Putting an End to a Broken Cycle
A statement from Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square)
“As the governor reviews and considers the Task Force’s recommendations, I am cautiously optimistic that this will mark a turning point in the fight to ensure appropriate educational standards and restore the trust of New York's parents and educators in our education system.
“Following the hasty roll-out of Common Core, my colleagues and I in the Assembly Minority Conference traveled across the state to understand just how negatively this new curriculum impacted students, educators and parents. Since then, we have continued to work alongside local stakeholders to ensure their voices are heard. It is clear from this report that the Task Force members heard the same concerns.
“Over the past two years, we have called on the governor and state education leaders to take a step back and restart from the ground up. I am hopeful that moving forward we will finally implement a thorough plan that reduces our reliance on high-stakes testing and ensures that the new educational standards are fair and appropriate for the unique student populations across New York State.”
