Ra and Local Girl Scout Troop: April Showers Need Umbrellas
Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) partnered with Girl Scout Troop 1888 of Franklin Square to collect umbrellas for the Mary Brennan INN, a soup kitchen in Hempstead, to help the less fortunate. Together, they collected over 50 umbrellas to help keep members of the community dry this Spring.
“No one wants to be caught in a spring rainstorm,” said Ra. “I am so happy to have partnered with Girl Scout Troop 1888 to help keep members of our community dry and healthy this spring. It is great to see young people wanting to help out their fellow Long Islanders by providing them with umbrellas, something most people might not think of to donate. I am so proud of the scouts and hope I can work with them on more projects like this in the future.”
“We are so proud of the efforts that the members of Troop 1888 made to help those in need in our community through the collection of umbrellas. Any opportunity the girls can engage in where they can live up to the Girl Scout Promise to ‘help others in need’ is one that we welcome,” said Kristy Bourne-Jaime, troop leader of Troop 1888.
Cynthia Sucich, director of Corporate & Community Relations for the Mary Brennan INN, gave Ra and the scouts a tour of the kitchen facility and explained to them about the services that the Mary Brennan INN provides.
“Umbrellas are one of those amenities that no one ever thinks about donating, but thanks to the amazing efforts of Troop 1888 and Assemblyman Ra’s office, they have helped guests of The INN stay dry on rainy days. We truly appreciate their support,” said Sucich.
