Education Reform Effort Falls Short

Last year, this house passed legislation to cleanly decouple student performance on statewide assessments from teacher evaluations. The bill we passed today fails to meet that standard. 50 percent of a teachers evaluation will still be based on assessments, which, for all intents and purposes, means more the same: more high-stakes tests, more concerned parents, more needlessly stressed kids and more educators teaching to tests written by bureaucrats instead of meeting the individualized needs of their students. I couldnt support this. We need to do better for our kids, said Ra.
