Assemblyman Ed Ra (R,C,I-Franklin Square) recently held his annual Women of Distinction Ceremony at the Westbury Public Library. Ra honored educators, volunteers, civic-minded entrepreneurs and public servants for their commitment to strengthening our communities. Over 100 grateful residents attended the ceremony to join Ra in thanking these women for their indelible contributions.

“I think it’s important to highlight people who give back, who put their communities first,” said Ra. “Each of these women are setting an example that young people across our district should emulate. It meant a lot to me to honor them. The values they live- service, integrity, generosity- are the values that should define us,” said Ra.

The honorees were:

• • Janet Bevers (Garden City) for her career in public service.
  • Ruth Valentine (Williston Park) for her career in technology and local government.
  • Patricia Blennau (New Hyde Park) for her volunteer work.
  • Kristy Bourne-Jaime (Franklin Square) for her volunteer work.
  • Diane Buono (New Hyde Park) for her faith-based service.
  • Danielle Genova (Garden City) for her charitable advocacy.

Jacqueline Botta (Franklin Square) earned the Special Recognition award for transcending a difficult medical diagnosis and thriving in her academic work. She plans to study medicine in college. Katharine Jushchenko (Garden City) received the Emerging Leader Award, and Cathedral Preschool earned the Women in Successful Endeavors Award.

Ra noted that it’s never too early to start thinking about next year.

“We’ll be soliciting nominations from the community again. We really appreciate that people take the time to nominate such high-quality individuals. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us,” said Ra.
