Today, Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) helped pass a series of bills delivering needed economic relief to small business owners and workers across the state.

Ra supported measures to extend eviction protections to commercial tenants, protect small business owners from unemployment insurance rate hikes and allow New Yorkers who find part-time work to retain eligibility for unemployment benefits.

“We know people are struggling. We know they deserve help. Today, we came together in a bipartisan way to respond and deliver some tangible relief,” said Ra.

Nearly two weeks ago, Ra and his Assembly Minority colleagues released their “Jump-Start New York” economic recovery plan. Help for commercial tenants and unemployment insurance policy holders were key components.

“This whole session is really about responding to COVID-19 and getting our economy back up and running safely,” said Ra. “We want to get people back to work, and to do that there have to be jobs for them to come back to. That’s why promoting part-time work for unemployment beneficiaries and the relief for small business owners goes hand-in-hand,” said Ra.
