Jacobson Praises Public Service Commission Audit of Central Hudson Billing Practices
Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-Newburgh) is praising the Public Service Commission’s recent announcement that it will be auditing Central Hudson’s winter storm response and estimated billing practices.
Jacobson said, “It’s high time Central Hudson got the bugs out of its new billing system. All winter, I have been hearing from constituents who either received an enormously high estimated bill that doesn’t correspond to actual usage or no bill at all for months on end.
“That’s why I introduced legislation (A8806A) that limits the number of estimated bills a utility company can issue and directs the Public Service Commission to provide a model procedure for estimated bills,” Jacobson continued.
“My constituents are frustrated and so am I. Earlier this month, I brought Central Hudson to the table with a virtual forum that allowed my constituents to get their billing questions answered. My office is also organizing an April forum with the Public Utilities Law Project that will ensure constituents know their rights when it comes to ridiculously high bills,” Jacobson concluded.
In the Senate, Bill A8806A is sponsored by Senator Michelle Hinchey.
Assemblymember Jacobson’s virtual Public Utilities Law Project Forum will be held on April 21st at 6pm and co-hosted by Assemblymembers Didi Barrett, Kevin Cahill, Sandy Galef, Aileen Gunther, and Ken Zebrowski. Call 845-562-0888 for more information.
