Jacobson Secures $10,000 Grant for Highland Library Music Garden
Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) recently joined library officials to announce $10,000 in funding to expand the Music Garden at the Highland Public Library.
The Music Garden has interactive outdoor instruments that encourage creativity and sensory exploration. This play element also encourages children to spend time at the library.
“This is a great example of a public-private partnership. Local citizens and the library were inspired to do a new project, which I was glad to help fund. This Music Garden will be another reason for children to go to the library. After exploring it, children will be encouraged to explore the rest of the library,” said Jacobson.
Outgoing Library Director Julie Dempsey said she was inspired by a trip to Colorado, where she saw a similar garden. She then approached the Assemblymember’s office with the project.
The garden was completed with additional donations from Phyllis Freeman and David Kirkun.
