Jacobson Secures $15,000 for Literacy Programs at Sarah Hull Hallock Library
Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) joined staff, volunteers and community members last week to announce a $15,000 grant for literacy programming at the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library in Milton.
“Anything we can do to promote literacy is a big win for our children and the community,” Jacobson said. “The library’s literacy program is great because it’s after school, so the kids don’t feel pressured or embarrassed.”
According to Library Director Raven Fonfa, the library’s new K-5 afterschool literacy program, run in collaboration with Learning Lab for Littles, has served 173 children this year. Additionally, the library’s pre-K programs have included 322 children so far this year.
“This library is a real gem, and also so functional,” Jacobson continued. “As I’ve said many times, it’s my honor to be able to deliver money to libraries, because libraries do not have a large bureaucracy so I know it’s going to be used with purpose and get results. And with these special Assembly grants, local taxpayers will not pay extra for these programs.”
