Today, Assemblymember Jonathan Jacobson (D-104) announced a $20,000 special Assembly grant for the Howland Public Library in Beacon.

Assemblymember Jacobson was joined by Library Director Kristen Salierno and Board of Trustees Vice-President Diane Landau-Flayter.

Jacobson said, “Libraries are no longer just places where people come to read and borrow books. They are community hubs where residents of all ages can connect to the internet, brush up on new technology, join a crafting group, and even borrow a pair of binoculars to go birding.

“The Howland Public Library’s central location on Main Street in Beacon makes it a popular destination for everyone from parents with young children to seniors. As the role of libraries in our communities evolves, the Howland is stepping up by increasing its technology services and by launching a “Library of Things.” I am proud to be able to help the Howland modernize its tech offerings,” Jacobson concluded.

Salierno said, “We thank Assemblymember Jacobson for this much-needed funding. It will be used to support many of the library’s long-range plans, including giving our community members access to current technology, expanding technology services, and continuing to grow our “Library of Things.” New technology and improved community spaces will provide visitors with safe and comfortable areas to learn, grow, and find fulfilment.”
