Brabenec Promotes Reading, Language Arts In Schools
Today, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark) celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday by reading to students at Anna S. Kuhl School in Port Jervis and Hamilton Bicentennial School in Cuddebackville as part of the national Read Across America program. The annual event, sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA) in celebration of the author’s birthday, is aimed at promoting the personal and educational benefits of reading to children. To honor the classic children’s author, Brabenec chose to read Dr. Seuss’ classics, Green Eggs and Ham, and One Fish, Two Fish.
“The future of our great state is dependent on our kids developing the necessary skills to meet the challenges that life brings, and reading and language arts are tools they will carry with them forever,” said Brabenec. “With such an emphasis on math and science, it’s important for our children to know that reading is equally important to other core subjects. The chance to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by enjoying a good read is something no one, young or old, should pass up.”
The NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2. The program also provides NEA members, parents, caregivers, and children the resources and activities they need to read all year long.
