Brabenec Advises Albany Listen To Parents And Educators
A Statement From Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark)
April 16, 2015
“Common Core is broken. It’s as simple as that. I know I’m not alone when I say that I have watched my children needlessly struggle for far too long. We’ve seen an overwhelming amount of parents opt their children out of the state tests this week; some local districts as high as 50 percent. Gov. Cuomo and the State Education Department have essentially ignored the pleas of parents, students and teachers since New York adopted Common Core. The recent opt-out movement should send a clear message to the governor’s office that real reforms are desperately needed. Overly stressful standardized testing, curriculums that aren’t age appropriate, and an insane lack of funding are putting too much stress on our school systems.”
