Brabenec Champions Bill To Cut Property Taxes By 75 Percent
Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark) today announced he has introduced legislation that would cut the average homeowner’s property taxes by 75 percent. The bill seeks to lift the burden off municipalities for education and unfunded mandate costs and replaces those expenditures with state funds, among other provisions. Brabenec’s Assembly District contains some of the highest-taxed properties in the nation, perpetuated by years of Majority overspending and fiscal recklessness.
“This bill is about lifting the state burden off of our already financially-crippled municipalities and easing the tax burden on homeowners whose taxes continue to skyrocket year after year,” Brabenec said. “As many people know, our area has some of the highest property taxes in the nation, which burdens our businesses and is partially responsible for New York’s mass exodus of citizens. Homeowners should not be responsible for Albany’s reckless spending and bloated social welfare programs. I hope this bill will come to the floor for a vote before session adjourns next week.”
