Assembly Passes Bill To Fix STAR Program, Brabenec Sponsors Bill
Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,TCN-Deerpark) today voted to pass legislation that would essentially roll back changes made to the state’s School Tax Relief Program (STAR) that have caused homeowners headaches as of late. The legislation would again classify the STAR benefit as a property-tax exemption.
“I am proud to have sponsored this legislation and was honored to cast my vote in support of helping our taxpaying homeowners recoup the money they are rightfully owed,” Brabenec said. “The implementation of this program caused significant problems that could’ve simply been avoided if the change was not made to begin with.”
Brabenec has been a consistent proponent of ways to reduce the Hudson Valley’s property taxes, including introducing legislation that would cut the average homeowner’s property taxes by up to 75 percent.
“Gov. Cuomo’s paper check system has been an unmitigated disaster and many residents still have not received their payments despite taxes being due many months ago. Why is it that whenever someone owes the state money collection is not an issue, but when it’s the other way around it takes months to cut a check. I applaud my colleagues in the Legislature for passing this bill and look forward to the Senate following suit.”
