Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,TCN-Deepark) is excited to announce his third year of involvement with the New York State Assembly’s Summer Reading Challenge, which encourages elementary school children to read books from a suggested list for at least 15 minutes a day for 40 days during their summer break. Upon completion of the challenge, children will receive an Excellence in Reading Certificate from Brabenec.

On Friday, Brabenec visited Minisink Valley Intermediate School in Middletown, New York to hand out brochures and explain the program to students.

“Children are like sponges, they have the potential to absorb so much, especially during their first few years of life,” said Brabenec. “This is why it is so important that we encourage our youth to stay engaged in activities such as reading year round and not just when school is in session. It was exciting to meet so many enthusiastic young students at Minisink Valley Intermediate School. I am happy to be moving forward with this program once again to promote the importance of reading to the children of our communities.”
