Brabenec Says No To Taxpayer Handouts for Illegals
A statement from Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark) on the passage of the DREAM Act today
Despite what the far left projects, the DREAM Act is more like a nightmare a reminder to struggling college students across our state that Assembly and Senate leadership care more about helping illegals afford college than law-abiding middle-class citizens.
At a time when the average student loan debt hovers around $39,000, New York City politicians put the desires of illegal aliens at the top of the list. The Assembly Minority Conference has consistently proposed expanding Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) eligibility a proposal met with disdain by these same politicians.
As a part-time college professor, I know the sacrifices legal students make to achieve a college education and our first priority should be improving affordability for them. I proudly voted against this legislation today and will continue fighting outrageous proposals like this in Albany.
