Brabenec: Majority Removal of Executive Power Does No Such Thing
A statement from Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I- Deerpark)
“Today the Assembly Majority passed what they want you to believe is a removal of Gov. Cuomo’s expanded executive powers. Their framing couldn’t be further from the truth.
“This is a sham on the part of the Majority to look like they are actually holding Gov. Cuomo accountable. This bill does the opposite of what it claims. Gov. Cuomo’s ability to exercise emergency power is not removed, it is effectively extended indefinitely.
“The truth of the matter is that the Majority leadership in the state Senate and Assembly are allowing the governor to keep his power while claiming to take it away so they can score political points.
“No governor should be granted blanket power to impose his will on the people. This governor has repeatedly shown disregard for nursing home patients, rules of professionalism and constitutional governance.
“We need a real revocation of Gov. Cuomo’s extraordinary power and we need it now.”
