Assemblywoman Buttenschon (D, I-Utica/Rome) announced that the MEET-NY bill she authored to assist businesses with expanding or entering the export market has passed the New York State Assembly (A.1177).

“As the Chair of the Export Trade Subcommittee, I introduced MEET-NY after hosting a series of roundtables throughout the State in partnership with the Assembly Economic Development Committee. This legislation was created in response to the barriers which exist for businesses seeking to expand or enter the export market. Our small and medium sized businesses are often overlooked as potential exporters despite the high-quality goods and services they provide to our communities. This means they’re missing out on vital information and opportunities to get established in domestic and global markets. At a time when businesses are struggling to stay open, we must remedy this oversight and help local businesses, including farms, to grow and thrive.

The Marketing and Expanding Export Trade New York (MEET-NY) program will provide assistance to export trade development projects and encourage and support companies to conduct export trade regionally and globally.

“We have some of the best products and services in the world and they deserve to be showcased. Establishing a program to support the exports of goods and services is a commonsense measure that supports our local businesses and farmers, helps them break into new markets and introduces more consumers to all that New York State has to offer. As we move forward, I’ll continue fighting for policies that work for Mohawk Valley communities and get our businesses the resources they need to flourish.”
