Assemblyman Nader Sayegh Announces Sprain Ridge Park & Pool as July 2019’s Agency of the Month

Assemblyman Nader Sayegh (D-Yonkers) joined Westchester County Executive George

Latimer and other public officials at an event celebrating the re-opening of Sprain Ridge Park’s

Competition Pool and to announce that the Westchester County Parks Department’s Sprain Ridge Park and Pool is selected as the July 2019 Agency of the Month recipient.

“Being that July is National Parks and Recreation Month, we sought to nominate an agency that positively engages as many of our constituents as possible especially in the enjoyment of recreational activities” said Assemblyman Sayegh. “We couldn’t think of a local agency more deserving of this recognition than the Sprain Ridge Park & Pool.”

Established in 1922, the Westchester County Parks Department is a nationally renowned park system responsible for 18,000 acres of parkland. The Westchester County Park Department’s facilities are expansive, with a selection that includes golf courses, pools, beaches, trails, nature centers, and even an amusement park. Many of Westchester County’s parks are open from dusk to dawn, 365 days a year. The Westchester County Park System is also the only park system in New York State to earn accreditation from the National Recreation and Parks Association, having been awarded this prestigious honor three times.

Since 1985, Parks and Recreation Month has been celebrated with the distinct goal of raising awareness of the vital impact that parks and recreation have on communities throughout

America. This July, the Westchester County Parks Department was emblematic of that goal. The

Westchester County Parks Department offered firework shows across Westchester County for

July 4th, arranged picnic days for people with disabilities, and provided free admission movie nights for children. The Westchester County Parks Department also unveiled new additions in

July, including an exhilarating new ride at Rye Playland, the first such addition in two decades, and a highly anticipated renovated Competition Pool at Sprain Ridge Park.

“I express my deepest gratitude to Westchester County Executive George Latimer, his staff, the Westchester County Parks Department, the Department of Public Works, the Westchester County Board of Legislators for their joint efforts in getting the Sprain Ridge Park & Pool fully operational” Said Assemblyman Sayegh. “The youth of Yonkers and Westchester County can now enjoy a state of the art facility during the Summer. Congratulations to the Westchester County Park Department for being selected as Agency of the Month!”
