Assemblyman Patrick Carroll Criticizes Congestion Pricing Plan Now in Effect
Rockland County, NY - Assemblyman Patrick Carroll (D-Rockland) issued the following statement regarding today’s implementation of congestion pricing.
“Congestion pricing is an ill-conceived plan and regressive tax that negatively impacts hardworking Rocklanders. Rockland pays millions to the MTA without receiving reliable and consistent public transportation options in return. Without a one seat ride into Manhattan, Rocklanders, many of whom are first responders, are essentially forced to complete their commute via driving. Now Rockland commuters will incur additional tolls on top of the ever-increasing tolls they already pay. This is simply unfair and unacceptable.
“I’ll always fight for Rockland regardless of who is in the Governor’s Mansion. That is why I’m pushing legislation to lift this weight of unaffordability off the backs of Rockland commuters through toll discounts and better, more reliable service from the MTA west of the Hudson. These are the first steps in putting some money back where it belongs - in the pockets of middle class and working families.”
