Ramos Honors Students for Participating in Annual Summer Reading Challenge

Assemblyman Philip Ramos (D-Central Islip) was joined by over 120 students and family members from Brentwood, Bay Shore, Central Islip and Islip for an award ceremony at the Central Islip Public Library. Ramos acknowledged students from across the 6th Assembly District for successfully completing the New York State Assembly Summer Reading Challenge.

The Reading Challenge was designed to promote reading among students of all ages. In order to successfully complete the Challenge, students and their families read together every day throughout this past summer and returned a marked off calendar to Assemblyman Ramos’ District Office.

“Reading is the most fundamental way to help our children grow, as students and as citizens,” Ramos said. “It’s important that we instill a love for reading in our kids at a young age.”

Ramos, who serves on the Assembly Education Committee, was introduced at the ceremony by Central Islip Public Library Director Paul Facchiano who commended the Assemblyman for his commitment to libraries and education in general.

“Assemblyman Ramos has always been there for the community of Central Islip,” said Facchiano. “His record of support for public libraries and education is exceptional.”

“It’s wonderful to see our children take an interest in reading and to see parents get involved in their children’s education,” said Ramos. “It’s great to meet these bright, ambitious students, and an honor to recognize their commitment to broadening their horizons through reading.”

Ramos has sponsored the Reading Challenge every year since being elected to the Assembly.
