Assemblyman Robert Smullen’s (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) office attended the Safe Lakes Initiative's annual press conference at the Hudson River Black River Regulating District (HRRD) Office in light of National Safe Boating Week. Attending the conference were representatives from the HRRD, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, the New York state Police, the New York state Department of Environmental Conservation as well as local marine patrol units, emergency responders and other local legislators. This conference aims to promote safe boating and teach about important boating rules and regulations as the state looks forward to the summer.

“Providing New Yorkers with the knowledge required to boat responsibly this summer is very important,” said Smullen. “Properly cleaning your boat, registering your boat prior to operation and obtaining a valid boater safety certification and boating license are all key steps to take before even considering going out on the water. The Safe Lakes Initiative is dedicated to helping prepare New Yorkers for summer by offering vital information from local authorities and environmental stewards. I am hopeful that everyone will boat safely and responsibly, and above all, enjoy their summers.”
