Smullen: Whole Milk is an Important Part of A Nutritious Diet for Our Children
Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) supports Assemblyman Chris Tague (R,C-Schoharie), Sen. George Borrello, Executive Director of Northeast Dairy Producers Tonya Van Slyke and his fellow state legislators in celebrating the Northeast Dairy Foods Association’s Dairy Day, where the group advocated for whole and 2% milk to be returned to school districts statewide. These lawmakers sponsored legislation (A.2321/S.1069) that would reinstate whole and 2% milk as healthy beverage options for students in New York state schools—this initiative would also support our local dairy farms and agricultural industry across the state.
“Our children deserve to have nutritional, healthy options for food and beverages during mealtimes at school,” said Smullen. “A good meal made up of whole foods and all-natural ingredients will help keep our children healthy and happy in the classroom—whole milk is an important factor in that equation. I fully support the efforts of my colleagues in advocating for whole milk to be returned to schools. I am hopeful we will see this legislation pull through and our children receive the nutritional beverage options they are entitled to at school.”
