Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) hosted the Salute to Service Veterans Coalition’s 4th Annual Salute to Service Veterans Appreciation Dinner at the Paul Nigra Center in Gloversville last night in honor of those who have served our country. The evening’s proceedings included guest speakers, dinner and music, raffles and giveaways, as well as a special award ceremony.

“I have hosted the Salute to Service Veterans Dinner for many years now, and I am so proud to be able to organize this event and help honor our local veterans,” said Smullen. “The Salute to Service Veterans Coalition is dedicated to providing aid and support to military veterans and active-duty service people in our upstate communities, and this yearly dinner is a great way to voice that community love and support. This year was the greatest turnout we’ve ever had at this event, and I would like to thank all of our caring upstate residents and veterans who attended.”

Smullen also had the honor of presenting a proclamation to Sgt. Paul R. Daw and his wife for his service in the Army. Sgt. Paul R. Daw served from July of 1969 to May of 1971, serving with the 1st Cavalry Division assigned to Ranger Company A in Vietnam from May of 1970 to May of 1971, and he also received numerous medals for his service. Upon returning home, Sgt. Daw continued to serve his community by working in law enforcement for more than two decades and even volunteered with his local fire department.

“Sergeant Paul R. Daw has dedicated his life to serving both his country and his community,” said Smullen. “Veterans like Sgt. Daw who demonstrate an unparalleled level of courage and sacrifice deserve our appreciation and support—this is what the Salute to Service Veterans Coalition stands for, and it is why I am so happy to be a member. I look forward to hosting the Salute to Service Veterans Dinner again next year, and I wish Sgt. Daw, his family and other military families like his nothing but the best.”
