Assemblyman Smullen Recognizes 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Day at the Capitol
Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C-Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks) joined colleagues at the New York State Capitol to recognize Fort Drum Day and celebrate the soldiers and civilian workforce of Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division.
“As a U.S. Marine, I have the highest regard for the soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division,” said Smullen. “I have family who served with the Division in World War II, fighting from Monte Cassino through the Po River Valley to the Brenner Pass. Years later, I had the honor of fighting alongside 10th Mountain troops in the rugged mountains of Kunar and Nuristan provinces in Afghanistan.
“These warriors are the most deployed division in the U.S. Army. They and their families bear an enormous burden to protect our freedom, and they do so with courage and distinction. New York is proud to be the home of Fort Drum, and I am proud to stand with them today.”
The New York State Assembly passed a resolution memorializing Gov. Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 4 as 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Day in the state of New York. The recognition highlights the critical role Fort Drum plays in national defense and its significant economic importance to Upstate New York.
