Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C,Ref-Meco) today praised the Public Authorities Control Board’s approval of a $1.2 million capital project for Century Linen & Uniform in Fulton County that is a critical component of the company’s plans to purchase much-needed new equipment and machinery. Through this grant opportunity, the company will retain good jobs in the area and continue to be a leader in the industry, thus promoting sustained economic growth in the Mohawk region.

“I commend the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council, Empire State Development and the Public Authorities Control Board for recognizing the importance of maintaining the quality jobs that Century Linen & Uniform provides,” said Smullen. “This local company has a long and rich history in the Gloversville and Johnstown areas, and the grant will enable the company to continue to grow and prosper in the Mohawk Valley.”

The Governor’s Regional Economic Council awarded Century a $1.2 million capital grant to assist with the financing of the project. In remarks at a public hearing in Gloversville last week, Assemblyman Smullen noted that, without this assistance, Century faced the very real prospect of either significantly reducing jobs or possibly closing the Gloversville location.

“Maintaining and attracting jobs, particularly in the Upstate region, must be a top priority at all levels of state government,” added Smullen. “The Century Linen Capital Project is an important part of that effort.”
