Smullen Attends Rally to Repeal Bail Reform

Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C,Ref-Meco) attended a rally hosted by Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski), Senate Minority Leader John Flanagan and featuring law enforcement officials and prosecutors outraged about the new bail reform law endangering every community in New York.

“We all have to keep the pressure up on this issue,” Smullen said. “This law has limited judicial discretion in pretrial criminal proceedings, allowing individuals who pose a danger to themselves and their community to walk free pending their criminal trials.”

“Without the restoration of judicial discretion, our communities will remain at risk,” Smullen continued. “I am calling for the repeal of this law or at least the reinstatement of judicial discretion, and I will continue to advocate for these changes throughout the legislative session.”
