Smullen Announces Funding For Library Improvements
Assemblyman Robert Smullen (R,C,Ref-Meco) today announced the New York State Education Department and New York State Library Association have approved construction awards to public libraries in the 118th Assembly District. Awards are supported throughout the state by a $34 million capital fund appropriation in the state budget.
Construction awards received in district include:
- Frank J Basloe Library: $72,647 to add an ADA compliant bathroom
- Hepburn Library of Madrid: $16,388 to install a hot water heater and furnace
- CVW Long Lake Public Library: $138,647 to upgrade exterior cladding, windows and doors
- Northville Public Library: $5,265 to upgrade lighting fixtures
- Old Forge Library: $10,403 to finish the basement and add a Bilco entrance
- Town of Indian Lake Public Library: $11,766 to expand the library’s entrance foyer
- Town of Inlet Public Library: $11,489 to replace lighting fixtures and old air conditioners
- Western Town Library: $30,830 to replace the basement emergency exit
“I am happy to announce library construction awards to eight public library systems throughout the district,” said Smullen. “Libraries are essential to upstate communities. Not only do they provide free broadband access to all citizens and help to count the Census, but they enrich the lives of upstate New Yorkers through knowledge. With the financial strains created by the pandemic, the priority funding for libraries, which I consider essential infrastructure, is encouraging to witness. I cannot wait to see the completed renovations and urge everyone to take advantage of the services offered by libraries.”
