Makor Celebrates New Accessible Van Funded Through Efforts of Assemblymember Simcha Eichenstein

BROOKLYN, NY – Makor Care and Services Network expressed its sincere gratitude to New York State Assemblymember Simcha Eichenstein for securing state funding for a new wheelchair-accessible van that will significantly enhance transportation services for individuals with specialized needs and disabilities.

The state-of-the-art vehicle will provide safe, reliable transportation for Makor participants traveling to medical appointments, day habilitation programs, employment opportunities, community outings, recreational activities, and other essential services throughout Brooklyn and the surrounding area.

To celebrate the addition of the new vehicle, Makor hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Makor Jaffa Family Center. The event was attended by Makor's administration, board members, staff, individuals served by the organization, and community leaders, marking an important milestone in Makor's ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for people with specialized needs and disabilities.

"Assemblymember Eichenstein has been a steadfast champion for individuals with specialized needs and disabilities and the organizations that support them," said Tzally Seewald, CEO of Makor Care and Services Network. "His leadership and commitment have made a meaningful difference in the lives of the people we serve. This new accessible van is more than just transportation – it is a gateway to greater independence, inclusion, and opportunity. It will help individuals access employment, medical care, recreational programs, and meaningful experiences in the community, empowering them to live fuller, more connected lives."

During the ceremony, Avrumi, a Makor resident, spoke about the impact the new van will have on the lives of those it serves.

"This van is much more than transportation," said Avrumi. "It gives us opportunities to get out, explore, and stay connected to our community. It will help us participate in activities, connect with others, and enjoy greater independence."

Assemblymember Eichenstein, who represents New York's 48th Assembly District, has consistently championed funding for disability services and community-based organizations. Funding for the new accessible van was allocated by Assemblymember Simcha Eichenstein as part of the New York State budget.

"I'm honored to support the important work Makor does every day," said Assemblymember Simcha Eichenstein. "Transportation should never be a barrier to receiving services, finding employment, or participating in community life. I'm proud to help make this new accessible van a reality so that more individuals and families can benefit from the outstanding care and opportunities Makor provides."

Makor Care and Services Network provides residential, day habilitation, employment, and family support services to more than 800 individuals with developmental disabilities throughout New York City. As transportation remains one of the greatest challenges facing many of the individuals Makor serves, the addition of this accessible van will expand mobility, increase community inclusion, and improve access to essential programs and services.
