Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C-Batavia) highlighted $500,000 in state funding awarded to the City of Batavia through the second round of the County Infrastructure Grant Program to support improvements at the DeWitt Recreation Area.

The funding will support the DeWitt Recreation Area Shoreline Infrastructure Project, which will address critical public infrastructure needs along the DeWitt Pond waterfront. Planned improvements include shoreline stabilization, ADA-accessible pathways and boardwalks, a reconstructed fishing platform and cantilevered deck, as well as stormwater and drainage infrastructure.

The project is expected to improve public safety, expand recreational opportunities and tourism, support year-round programming and strengthen connections between the DeWitt Recreation Area, the Ellicott Trail and downtown Batavia.

“Making sure our local communities have the infrastructure they need to grow and provide quality recreational opportunities should always be a priority,” said Hawley. “These improvements at DeWitt Recreation Area will provide tangible benefits for Batavia residents and visitors by improving accessibility, safety and the overall experience at one of our community’s important recreational assets. I will continue working to make sure Batavia and Genesee County receive the attention and resources they deserve.”

The $500,000 award is part of more than $38 million awarded to 49 projects statewide through the second round of the County Infrastructure Grant Program. The program supports small- and medium-sized county-led infrastructure projects focused on economic development, placemaking and tourism.
