Hawley: Construction Industry Cannot Afford Albany’s Inaction
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R, I, C – Batavia) issued the following statement
With the state budget now a month late and no funding provisions set in place for needed infrastructure projects, it’s become all too clear that the governor and legislative majorities are willing to let construction businesses suffer. With contractors working on road and bridge projects across the state that have been delayed, this has resulted in workers being laid off and businesses taking on unexpected financial hardships. In the past, late state budgets would have led contractors to accept vouchers in lieu of funding, knowing full well that they would be paid when the budget was passed. Sadly, with New York in the midst of a fiscal crisis, and with no state budget, these businesses cannot afford to take that risk. The state budget must be passed and construction firms must be paid for work completed!
