Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,I,C-Batavia) recently announced a pair of upcoming community blood drives. The first will be on February 17 at the Batavia Salvation Army, 529 East Main Street, and will run from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The second will occur on February 23 at the Albion offices of the Genesee/Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, 438 West Avenue, and will run from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. All those who have not donated since December 23 are encouraged to participate in either blood drive.

“Donating blood is one of the most precious gifts someone can give,” said Hawley. “Western New York is full of tremendously generous people, and these blood drives are yet another chance to make a difference in our community. I want to thank everyone for their generosity and support. I look forward to seeing you all there.”

If you wish to donate, you may call 1-800-RED CROSS to schedule an appointment, or the Red Cross Web site. Walk-ins are accepted as well. Anyone 17 years or older, weighing at least 110 pounds, and in good health is eligible to donate blood. In New York state, 16-year-olds may donate blood provided they bring an original signed New York State Informed Parental Consent for 16-Year-Old to Donate Blood form to the blood drive.
