Hawley Touts Jobs Program For Veterans
Advocacy plan helps heroes find work
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,I,C-Batavia) is promoting the Hiring Our Heroes jobs program, a U.S. Chamber of Commerce initiative aimed at helping veterans re-enter the workforce. Launched in 2011, the campaign has hosted over 150 job fairs nationwide, linking nearly 10,000 veterans with employment.
“Although this year’s Memorial Day festivities are behind us, our commitment to supporting veterans must continue each and every day,” said Hawley. “The Hiring Our Heroes jobs program links our courageous servicemen and women with the quality job opportunities they need and deserve. This program is a vital service for our returning heroes, and I encourage all veterans to explore the resources the chamber of commerce has to offer by visiting the U.S. Chamber of Commerce website, or calling their Eastern Region office at 401-831-8885.”
In addition, the Hiring 500,000 Heroes campaign is being sponsored by the chamber, the National Chamber Foundation and Capital One. This program asks businesses to hire 500,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014. An online pledge form where businesses can immediately enlist in the effort is available at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce website.
