Hawley Celebrates Read Across America
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,I,C–Batavia) recently celebrated Read Across America by reading to Ms. Kristen Fix’s kindergarten class from Jackson Elementary School. The annual event, sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA) in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2, is aimed at promoting the personal and educational benefits of reading to children.
“It is important for our children to know that reading isn’t only educational, but it can be a lot of fun, too,” said Hawley. “Instilling a love of literature in our children at a young age helps them develop mentally and sets them up for a lifelong love affair with reading. I hope that all of our local children have a chance to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by enjoying a good book this weekend.”
NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2. The program also provides NEA members, parents, caregivers and children the resources and activities they need to read all year long.
