Hawley, Local Reps Urge President Trump to Declare Lake Ontario Shoreline Federal Disaster
Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) Wednesday joined a host of elected officials representing areas affected by Lake Ontario’s southern shore at Green Harbor Marina in Lyndonville to sign a joint letter to Gov. Cuomo asking him to petition President Trump to declare the southern shore of the lake a federal disaster.
“It is crucial that we continue to sound the alarm about the devastating conditions residents and businesses are enduring here on Lake Ontario’s southern shore,” Hawley said. “We have made great strides in securing funding to help us rebuild and repair, but much more needs to be done and it is time that the federal government step in and lend a hand.
“I thank Congressman Collins for pushing this issue to the forefront at the national level and my colleagues in the Assembly and Senate who have joined me here today to support the cause,” Hawley continued. “We will be following up with Gov. Cuomo and doing everything we can for the people affected by this terrible disaster in the coming weeks and months.”
