Senator Mayer and Assemblyman Otis Announce Port Chester Grant for Housing Development

Westchester, NY State Senator Shelley B. Mayer (SD-37) and Assemblyman Steve Otis (AD- 91) are pleased to share that Governor Kathy Hochul has awarded the Village of Port Chester with funding to accelerate housing development across Westchester, through the Mid-Hudson Momentum Fund.

Port Chester received $10 million for infrastructure development at the former United Hospital site, including new water, sewer, and stormwater management systems, as well as roads and sidewalks. The project will support future mixed-use development featuring residential and senior living components, comprising 975 housing units, including 87 affordable units, with a total project cost of $25.4 million.

The redevelopment of the United Hospital site will be the largest redevelopment project in the Village of Port Chester, creating over 1,000 construction jobs and 150 full-time positions once the project is completed. The proposed project will include market-rate housing, affordable housing, senior housing for both assisted living and independent living, a hotel, and small retail space. In addition, the offsite improvements and green space of the project will benefit the surrounding properties as well as the greater Port Chester community.

Overall, in this second round of awards, more than $60 million was granted to support 10 transformative projects across the Mid-Hudson region. These grants will leverage $627 million in total public-private investment towards critical infrastructure improvements and mixed-use projects that will enable significant new housing development across the Hudson region including Westchester County. The projects range from new mixed-use and mixed-income housing developments to essential water treatment facilities and sewer infrastructure that together will unlock more than 8,000 new units of housing, over 2,000 of which will be affordable.

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer said, “I am thrilled that the Village of Port Chester was selected to receive $10 million for projects related to the development of the former United Hospital site in Port Chester to expand affordable and senior housing. After seeing this site sit vacant for decades, I’m pleased that it now has the opportunity for a second life while providing much needed housing for some of the residents of Port Chester. I am proud to represent the Village of Port Chester and I thank Governor Kathy Hochul for her investment in Port Chester and Westchester County.”

Assemblyman Steve Otis said, “The Westchester Crossing Project at the former United Hospital site in the Village of Port Chester was awarded $10M from the Momentum Fund for infrastructure development of the project, including new water, sewer and stormwater management systems plus roads and sidewalks. The project will support future mixed-use development with residential and senior living with 975 housing units, including 87 affordable units and a total project cost of $25.4 million.”

Port Chester Village Mayor Luis Marino said, “I am pleased that Governor Hochul has recognized Westchester Crossing and their vision for the revitalization of the site of the former United Hospital. Port Chester will sustain a strong obligation towards forwarding fair and affordable housing while strengthening critical infrastructure in our village. We will continue to lead the charge towards a brighter tomorrow through strategic and smart development, sustainable practices, and a continued commitment to public capital investment and downtown revitalization.
