Woodside, NY – New York State Assemblymember Steven Raga recognized 30 young people from across Assembly District 30 for their leadership, service, and contributions to their communities during the office’s Annual Youth Day celebration on Saturday, August 22.

The event, held at Assemblymember Raga’s district office in Woodside, brought together young people ages 15 to 25, families, community members, and organizations serving youth throughout the district. Each of the 30 honorees received a New York State Assembly citation recognizing their contributions to the community, presented personally by Assemblymember Raga.

“Some of the most impactful leadership happening in our neighborhoods is already coming from our young people,” said Assemblymember Steven Raga. “Youth Day is an opportunity to recognize what they have accomplished and make sure they have the support and opportunities to take that leadership even further. I’m proud to honor these 30 young people, and I want to thank the agencies, nonprofits, and community organizations that joined us to share their programs, resources, and opportunities with our youth. I’m excited to see what these young leaders do next.”

Youth Day also connected attendees with organizations offering employment, volunteer, leadership, and community engagement opportunities. Participating organizations included Gen Vote, the New York State Division of Human Rights, and City Mission, whose representatives introduced young attendees to programs and resources available to them.

Approximately 50 constituents attended the celebration. In addition to recognizing this year’s honorees, the event provided young people with an opportunity to meet one another and learn about ways to become more involved in their neighborhoods and build their skills and experience.

Born and raised in Queens, Steven Raga is a lifelong tenant, the son of Filipino immigrant workers, and a proud product of Western Queens. Elected in 2022, he is the first Filipino American to hold statewide office and the first person of color to serve the Assembly district. Before serving in the State Assembly, he worked as a community advocate and nonprofit leader, fighting for immigrant rights, language access, and for working families. In Albany, he has built a record of delivering investments in affordable housing, immigration legal services, food security, and other essential support for the diverse communities he represents.
