Assemblyman Colton Joins Summer Interns, Local Volunteers at Park Cleanup
Interns in the office of Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) are spending some of their working time helping to clean up the neighborhood.
The interns have been doing weekly cleanups on Wednesday mornings, at Seth Low Park, jointly with Chinese American Social Services and volunteers recruited by the office of City Councilmember Susan Zhuang (D—Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Gravesend, Dyker Heights, Boro Park and Sunset Park).
“I’ve really been impressed by the energy and enthusiasm of our interns this summer,” said Assemblyman Colton. “They do all the usual office work to assist constituents, which enables them to learn the way government service works. And, they also do special projects like this weekly cleanup, which pays so many dividends in the community, as well as voter registration drives and helping with Night Out Against Crime, which is coming up next month.”
The cleanup of Seth Low Park on July 16 was the third of the summer spearheaded by CASS in response to complaints from local residents about the condition of the park.
“Together, we can make a difference in our neighborhood, which is a crucial lesson that these dedicated interns are learning firsthand,” said Assemblyman Colton. “It is a lesson that they will take with them, and benefit from, throughout their lives.”
