Assemblyman Colton Offers AAA Defensive Safety Drivers Course

Assemblyman William Colton has arranged with the AAA to give Defensive Driving Safety Courses at 29 Bay 25th Street (Off 86th Street). Call Paul Lipton or Jeanette Givant for information at 718 236 1598, or to set up an appointment.

There will an option of choosing from 2 separate six-hour courses, that run from 9 AM to 4 PM, one given on Saturday, February 5 and the other on Saturday February 26th. There are no walk-ins for either course; it is for registered and prepaid applicants only.

After completing a six-hour Defensive Drivers Course, or Point and Insurance Reduction Program (PIRP) course, you will be given a certificate that you turn into your insurance company for a discount on your base rate of your automobile liability and collision premiums for three years.

Assemblyman Colton states "It’s bad enough that we here in Brooklyn have some of the highest insurance premiums in the country. I am glad to have arranged this life saving drivers’ defensive course, not only will you drive safer having taken it, but you’ll be saving a lot of money."

The course is interesting and refreshes your driving knowledge. It reviews time tested safe driving tips and gives you an overview of today’s vehicle and traffic laws. You can reduce as many as 4 points on your driving record. The DMV computer will automatically note your eligibility to receive the reduction. And if you’re the principal operator of a motor vehicle, you will receive a minimum of ten percent reduction in the base rate of your automobile and motorcycle liability and collision insurance premiums each year for three years.

The course is given by the Automobile Club of New York instructors who, through video tapes and lectures as well as an extensive Question and Answer period, bring you up to date on Seat Belt laws, driving safety tips and warn you of the dire consequences of drinking and driving.

Assemblyman Colton has obtained a reduced rate for his constituents of $25.00 that must be paid in advance to the AAA, when you sign up at his Community Office at 211 Kings Highway. There is a maximum of forty drivers per class, and a waiting list will be set up for future courses. Call Paul Lipton or Jeanette Givant for information at 718 236 1598, or to set up an appointment.
