Assemblyman Al Stirpe: Tax Cut Plan for Middle Class Families Good First Step
“Cutting taxes is necessary to help hardworking Central New York families. The governor’s property tax relief plan sounds promising for both homeowners and renters and I look forward to seeing the detailed outline of the initiative and its implementation. Over the past few years, I’ve supported a similar “circuit breaker” tax relief program and a broad range of tax cuts for middle-class families and businesses, including a property tax freeze and a zero percent state income tax on manufacturers so that they can grow and create much-needed local jobs.
“I also recognize that much more needs to be done to provide our localities with critical mandate relief and hope that the Governor’s budget plan this year will make it a priority.”
Governor Cuomo today announced the Real Property Tax Credit plan, which would provide a tax credit for homeowners whose tax property tax burden exceeds six percent of their income. According to the Governor’s release, the plan would cut property taxes by $1.66 billion.
A regional breakdown shows 543,299 upstate taxpayers would receive an average relief of $781.
