Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) highlighted the ongoing renovations at Green Lakes State Park that have been made possible through Governor Cuomo’s NY Parks 2020 initiative. The state is expected to spend nearly $9 million on a variety of projects, including renovations to the clubhouse, improvements to the campground and additional upgrades throughout the park.

“These improvements will benefit the nearly 1 million annual visitors to Green Lakes State Park as well as our community and local economy,” Assemblyman Stirpe said. “I would like to thank Governor Cuomo and Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey for their continued work on this project.”

The golf course’s clubhouse will undergo a $3.1 million renovation of its outdoor patio and restaurant dining area. The current multi-tiered patio will be replaced with one that is handicapped-accessible and features views of the park. New public restrooms will also be installed near the pro shop, which currently lacks facilities. Additionally, the clubhouse interior will be renovated to include increased seating.

Campers visiting the Pine Woods Campground will benefit from nearly $3 million in work to expand and modernize camping sites at the park, including making them more suitable for RVs by installing electric, water and sewage infrastructure. These will be the first full-service sites in Central New York. With the help of a $1.1 million grant from the federal government, these improvements will divert sewage runoff to protect the local environment.

NY Parks 2020 is a statewide initiative with the goal of investing $900 million in parks renovations by the year 2020. The initiative encourages improvements that are energy efficient, sustainable and accessible to all. This year’s state budget included $110 million toward that goal.

“These upgrades are going to make the park an even more attractive destination for tourists and local residents,” Assemblyman Stirpe said. “I look forward to working with the governor to continue improving Green Lakes and other Central New York parks.”
