Assemblyman Stirpe: Measures Granting Equal Rights to Women Signed Into Law
“New York State has long been a leader in the fight for equality and justice. Yet, for too long women in our state were not guaranteed some of the most basic protections.
“Today, we celebrated a major victory as Governor Cuomo signed into law several measures that will strengthen women’s rights by ensuring pay equity, fighting back against sexual harassment and ending pregnancy and family status discrimination once and for all. He also signed legislation that will provide greater protections for victims of domestic violence and toughen our state’s human trafficking laws.
“This monumental legislation will go a long way in achieving equality and fairness for women. Of course, there is more work to be done to guarantee a woman’s right to make her own reproductive health decisions. But the bills signed into law today are a major step forward for equality.”
