Assemblyman Stirpe: Assembly Passes Measures to Protect Women’s Reproductive Freedom
“The Assembly Majority has once again taken a stand to defend a woman’s right to choose what’s best for her own body with the passage of two bills ensuring access to critical reproductive health care services.
“The Assembly passed legislation that I co-sponsored to ensure women can safely and legally terminate a pregnancy within 24 weeks, or when the pregnancy is not viable, or endangers her life or health (A.1748). With the threat of Roe v. Wade being overturned at the federal level, this is more important than ever. We also passed a measure to guarantee that FDA-approved contraception that is prescribed by a medical provider is covered by health insurers at no cost to the consumer (A.1378). We’re making it unequivocally clear – we won’t stand for barriers or burdens when it comes to reproductive health freedom.
“Everyone deserves equal access to quality health care. A woman’s reproductive health decisions should be between her and her doctor, and the government shouldn’t get in the way of that. I’ll keep fighting to ensure all women in New York can choose what’s best for their health and well-being.”
