Assemblyman Stirpe: Experience the Beauty and Fun of Fall in Central New York

There’s so much to do here in Central New York during the fall season. We’re lucky to live in a region with amazing farms that offer activities for the whole family, such as apple and pumpkin picking, lakes for fishing and parks to hike scenic trails or go camping. This time of year calls for us to explore all of our region’s outdoor splendors, take advantage of local agriculture and embark on new adventures.

Apple and pumpkin picking are popular family-fun activities this time of year as the fruit comes into season and as we get ready for the holidays. And with Halloween right around the corner, families can enjoy hayrides and check out corn mazes. I encourage you to pay a visit to one of the region’s farms – your support keeps them up and running and an integral part of our economy.

If you’re looking for more adventure, you can grab some friends and family and enjoy the great outdoors. Go for a hike at Highland Forest, which provides over 20 miles of trails, including trails for horseback riding. Located at 1254 Highland Park Road in Fabius, it’s open year-round. Pratt’s Falls Park – located at 7671 Pratt’s Falls Road in Manlius – also offers scenic trails leading to a 137-foot waterfall. In addition, the park is perfect for archery and orienteering.

For those who enjoy fishing, Oneida Lake offers a diverse population of fish. Also check out Pools Brook, located at 8200 George Taylor Road in Fayetteville; Limestone Creek, located at 110 Mill St., in Manlius; and Old Erie Canal State Park in East Syracuse.

Fall activities allow us to enjoy all the scenery and fun Central New York has to offer, while boosting our local economy through job creation, spending and tourism. And remember, safety always come first. Please take all necessary safety precautions while engaging in these recreational activities as well as helping keep our environment clean and healthy for generations to come.
