Assemblyman Al Stirpe Holds E-Recycling Event Ahead of Earth Day
Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) recently held a successful e-recycling event at Cicero North Syracuse High School on April 17, several days before the observation of Earth Day on April 22. Every reservation slot was filled for the event and more than 200,000 pounds of electronics were collected, enough to fill 11 tractor trailers.
“After such a difficult year, it can be challenging to divert our focus back to long-term priorities, such as protecting the environment,” Stirpe said. “However, we must continue reducing waste and preserving natural resources to ensure our children can enjoy clean air and water. I’m grateful to everyone who showed up to the event and helped us safely and responsibly dispose of old electronics.”
Almost every type of metal is recyclable.[1] But unlike aluminum cans, which are made from a singular, sortable material and easily recycled, the varied materials within electronics must be deconstructed and sorted using advanced procedures. The fact that so many people have begun taking extra steps to ensure they are properly recycling their metal waste will go a long way toward protecting our local environment, Assemblyman Stirpe noted.
