Simpson: What More Proof Is Needed?

Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C-Horicon) joined Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay (R,C-Pulaski), Sen. Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats), and members from the Assembly and Senate Conferences to renew calls to repeal the state’s dangerous and deadly bail reform laws, with a specific call to restore judicial discretion. The legislators were joined by Tammy Patrick, whose father was killed last year after a repeat offender was released under the reform laws, and Jennifer Harrison, the founder of Victims Rights NY.

“The bravery it takes to stand in front of strangers and next to a dozen legislators to demand change in the state’s public safety laws is admirable,” said Simpson. “We continue to have the same conversation year after year and the response continues to be the same– ‘bail reform is working.' Bail reform is not working– standing with us here today were victims of senseless crimes demanding change so other families don’t experience losses like they did. The Assembly Majority has yet to acknowledge the problem and give the discretion back to judges to keep dangerous criminals behind bars.”
