Simpson Celebrates Richards Library’s 125th Anniversary Following Restoration

Assemblyman Matt Simpson (R,C-Adirondack) joined the Warrensburg community in celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Richards Library, marking 125 years of stories and community gathering in the Adirondack town. Simpson recognized the occasion with an official Assembly Proclamation and also announced securing $60,000 in grant assistance for the facility.

The celebration came just months after a sprinkler system malfunction flooded the historic building, forcing a lengthy closure. The announcement follows $130,000 secured by Simpson for the Richards Library last year for critical renovations and improvements.

“Today we celebrate this beautiful building and the people who have kept the Richards Library alive for 125 years,” said Simpson. “After the flood and the hard work to bring it back, it’s great to see this community cornerstone stronger than ever. I am humbled and privileged to join the patrons, volunteers, staff and supporters who make it all possible.”

Simpson has consistently prioritized local libraries. Since assuming office, nine different libraries have received state assistance totaling roughly $400,000 in grant allocations, and an additional $162,000 has been awarded in capital improvements for various library projects in the 114th Assembly District.

The anniversary event featured food, live music, lawn games, crafts, a library-themed scavenger hunt, exhibits and the dedication of a time capsule.
